Cosmo was about eight or nine months old when I adopted Tess. Cosmo was a constant whiner when he was a kitten. Tess became very clingy quite quickly.

One day, I was picking up around my house. I have gone to put important documents in my large gun safe. The safe is designed to hold long weapons, which I do not own. I primarily use this safe for organizing important documents. I had the safe door open. While I was trying to keep Cosmo from going into the safe, I didn’t see Tess sneak inside. I closed the safe door and locked it. I went back to my cleaning.

Cosmo began crying. I didn’t think much of it until he started crying with a desperation in his cries. As I began looking for him, his cries got louder. I found him crying desperately and pawing at the safe. It was then, I heard Tess crying from inside the safe. I began working the combination to free her. She was only in the safe a maximum of 60 seconds.

Since then, I go into the room with the safe alone. Now that I’ve moved, I keep the safe in my garage. My cats are not allowed in the garage.

Cosmo saved Tess that day.
