STORY

Apollo was one of two small kittens seen in a store parking lot by a relative who worked at the store.   This relative took Apollo to her apartment complex, leaving the other small kitten, Apollo’s littermate, to fend for himself.  The two kittens were perhaps 6 to 7 weeks old.  They were definitely too young to be taken from their mother.

When the relative’s husband discovered the kitten, he confronted his wife.  She immediately denied bringing the kitten home.  She didn’t admit to the deception or bringing the kitten home until her daughter returned from a weekend stay with me.  The relative’s husband adamantly insisted the kitten be either rehomed or surrendered to a shelter due to their son’s severe allergic reaction to cats.

I had already returned home after dropping their daughter off at their apartment when I received a phone call from the daughter.  She was angry at her mother.  She was worried about the kitten.  She knew I had a cat carrier and knowledge of the location of an animal shelter because Tess was adopted from an animal shelter.

I agreed to return to the apartment for the kitten.  My original plan was to attempt to rehome the kitten if the animal shelter couldn’t take him.  Since these events occurred on Memorial Day, the shelter was closed.  Despite weeks of efforts to rehome the kitten, no one wanted him.  He had quickly bonded with Tess.  Since no one else wanted the kitten, I decided to keep him and raise him.

Sadly, Apollo ran away on September 27, 2024 when the cleanup crew inadvertently left my front door open, allowing him to escape.
